Are you going trick-or-treating this year? Maybe taking the kids trick-or-treating? Or perhaps just buying bags of candy for all the trick-or-treaters? You know you’re going to give in a little and have some of the candy you bought or earned walking with the kids to all the houses. If you are going to give in a little try giving in to something that’s going to help your skin… chocolate! That’s right, I said help, not hurt. The myths that chocolate causes breakouts are just that…myths! In fact chocolate, in moderation, has large powerful antioxidants in the cocoa (the main ingredient in chocolate). Cocoa is derived from cocoa beans. It contains 10,000mg of antioxidants per 100 g of cocoa. The antioxidant properties in cocoa can help prevent free radicals from damaging the elastin and collagen in the skin preventing wrinkles and discoloration.
Take into consideration the darker the chocolate the better. Dark chocolate also contains vitamins D and E which are great for your skin and body. In a study woman who took a ½ cup of cocoa with 329 milligrams of antioxidants a day for 12 weeks saw: (more…)

Ever get sick of throwing out the “guts” of your pumpkin while carving them? You don’t have to anymore! Pumpkin is rich in essential vitamins and nutrients necessary for healthy and radiant skin.
Pumpkin is good for all skin types, especially the ones born in the ‘baby oil era’ who now suffer from hyperpigmentation. It is rich in vitamin A (retinol), which soothes and softens your skin, and vitamin C (an antioxidant that can help to remedy damage produced by free radicals).

Hyperpigmentation- Darkening of the skin in areas due to sun exposure, a wound, inflammation, acne or injury. Hyperpigmentation can be temporary or permanent. Also known as sun spots, age spots, liver spots, or larger areas of hyperpigmentation can occur during pregnancy, known as melasma. “Summer really jacks with my skin! I stay out of the sun as much as possible…wear a hat… use a high SPF Sunscreen… I’m always searching for shade! As a kid, our loving parents doled out the fruity flavored chewable vitamins before breakfast or bedtime, and we gladly chomped away at them as more of a treat than a chore. Things are not as easy these days.
Most of us don’t have a handy assistant ready to give us our daily intake of vitamins, and prepare our well-balanced meals for the day. It’s easy to forget about putting proper nutrition and vitamins in our bodies to fuel us for our busy lives, and treat our bodies well.
Good nutrition is key in having healthy and glowing skin. If you want a beautiful garden, you fertilize the soil to make it rich and ready to grow big beautiful plants. We are all really good at applying our anti-aging creams and getting our facials every month, but we forget about what goes in must come out.
