Flexibility!

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Flexibility… a lot of life’s schedule just doesn’t afford us such a comfort.  We all, at some point, have wished that things in life could be more flexible.

I get it!  I make it a priority to understand the value of flexibility when it comes to our clients.

I’ve thought long and hard about what clients have told me they want in their skincare and massage services! I’ve taken it to heart…and here are just a few of the flexible options that we offer:

- the flexibility of the services we offer! We are able to accommodate a multitude of skin issues, budgets and lifestyles!

-on-line booking… gives you a chance to book at your convenience!

-reminder calls the day before appointments…allows you to reschedule your appointment if “life” has gotten in the way again, and you are unable to make it. (more…)

Ear Candling!

Monday, October 24th, 2011

With the cold and flu season upon us, we will all come in contact with some sort of virus.  Ear candling is a way to help relieve sinus pressure, ear infections, sinusitis, headaches,  and post nasal drip.

Ear candling is performed with the client lying on his or her side.  A long hollow candle is inserted into the ear and then lit.  The smoke of the candle is pulled down into the ear causing the ear to warm up and loosen the wax and other debris inside the eardrum. As the ear warms up, the candle will cause suction which creates a vacuum in the ear canal…that is how the toxins are removed from the inner ear and sinus canal.  After the candle has burned the appropriate amount of time, it is removed from the ear.  When you look inside the hollow candle…you can actually see the wax and toxins that were removed from your ear!

Ear Candling isn’t a treatment meant only for cold weather, best results are when it it’s performed every three months. It is quick, and painless…so why not call today to make your appointment!

Change Is Fun!!!

Friday, October 21st, 2011

Change can be such a scary word for some, but to me it’s FUN!!!! Nothing stokes my fire more than a positive change! Okay, so I’m getting ready to have another birthday…52 years to be exact, and I’m always looking for a way to change. Maybe it’s time to spice up YOUR life and change something about YOURself!

I’ll never forget the day I discovered eye shadow. I was 13 years old attending 7th grade at my Jr. High school. Yes!!  I had graduated from the Little Leagues to, what I considered at the time, “The BIG leagues!”

Just a few weeks before I started 7th grade, I went to a garage sale in one of my friends’ neighborhoods. The lady holding the sale was a cosmetologist. She had “used” make-up for sale and I found a brown eye shadow that I thought was so crazy dark that I decided to buy it for 5 cents!

It really wasn’t until about the 2nd week of school that I got brave and decided to wear it. I would always show up for school early so I could sit on the steps leading to the front door of the school and chat “with the people”. That day, (more…)

Microdermabrasion!

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

If your skin is dull and lifeless…microdermabrasion may be the answer, and it is my favorite service!

Fall is an awesome time to concentrate on reversing any damage that has been done during those harsh summer days.  Or maybe you have acne scars that you are self-conscious about…microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that exfoliates the dermis (outer layer of skin) and gets rid of those pesky dead skin cells.  Your skin becomes smooth, has more of an even texture, and there is NO down time…and that is after just ONE treatment!  Just imagine how fresh, smooth, and luminous your skin will look after the recommended 4-8 weekly treatments!

One of my favorite things about micro’s (for short) is that it stimulates collagen, which is responsible for keeping the skin hydrated and helps prevent fine lines & wrinkles.  It also helps to increase cell turnover aiding in the removal of blackheads & acne scarring.

Microdermabrasion is (in my humble opinion) one of the BEST things you can do for your skin without using lasers or botox…or, needless to say, ”going under the knife”!

Guys, You Have Never Been To A Spa?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Maybe you should try it!   Whether you are looking for hair removal, acne treatments, rejuvenation, anti-aging or just plain old stress reduction, at Kimberly Spa we take pride in addressing your individual concerns.

My own father was very reluctant to get spa treatments when I became an esthetician 15 years ago.   He is an “old-school” kind of guy…raised in an era when men never got these types of treatments.   At first, I had to talk him in to it…but now he is not only comfortable getting treatments, he actually looks forward to them!   He leaves feeling refreshed, with unclogged pores and with  younger, healthier looking skin.

A first-time male client (age 50+) who had never been into a spa before describes his experience…”I had a good feeling as soon as I walked in to Kimberly Spa.   It was luxurious, and comfortable…while still being clinically professional.   They earned my trust.”

Ladies, if you have a boyfriend, brother, father, spouse or just a good male friend who is curious about what a “spa experience” is all about…share our “Look Good~Feel Good” secret and send them to Kimberly Spa!   They will love it just as much as you do, and it will be an experience they’ll never forget!

Leg Crossers Beware!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

I’ve known for a while now that I wanted to blog about the ill effects of leg crossing.  I’d heard that crossing your legs can cause varicose veins along with hip and lower back problems and poor circulation.

Crossing your legs does in fact impede circulation.  It puts uneven pressure on your lower back, specifically your sacrum.  So why do we do it?  72% of women surveyed (Yahoo Answers) say they cross their legs out of habit.  Others do it because  it is more comfortable and some were taught that it is polite.  Like all bad habits, it takes recognizing the habit before you can break it.

I propose a solution to breaking this potentially painful habit.  (more…)

Happy Feet!

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Don’t you just love the way your feet feel after a Kimberly Spa Pedicure?  Ever wonder how you can keep them feeling great in between your pedicures?  With just a couple quick and easy steps you can have soft heels that will last through the colder months to come.

Your first defense against those scratchy, cracked heels is a great foot file such as the Super Pro 3-in-1 Nickel File that you can find right here at Kimberly Spa.  It has three different grades to work in all the problem areas and it’s even ergonomical!  Take a minute at the very end of your shower or bath each time, when your feet have had time to soften, to scrub just a few times across the bottom of your foot in the problem areas such as the heels, ball of the foot and any callused areas.  It only takes a minute or two each time and your feet will thank you.

The second line of defense is the Cucumber Heel Therapy from Creative Nail Design (also available at Kimberly Spa).  I like to keep this product next to the bed and smooth a tiny bit on to the heels right before bedtime.  This ensures the cream stays on your foot and not on the floor.  Do this a couple times a week and you will have happy, soft feet between your pedicures!

Foot Detox, What’s That?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Toxins are all around us.  We naturally get toxins from the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the state of stress we are in.  Unfortunately, a buildup of toxins in the body can become harmful and even increase the chances of becoming ill.

Did you know that our bodies are made up of many electrically charged cells?  Sometimes these cells can become off balance due to the buildup of toxins.  When those cells are out of balance they aren’t able to function correctly to keep a person healthy.  Foot detox baths use the thousands of sweat glands in our feet to help take out some of those unhealthy toxins.  A foot detox bath also puts safe positive and negative ions back into the body through those same glands!  These ions then gradually help to bring the body back into balance.    (more…)

Never Had A ‘Brazilian’?

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

What can I say about Brazilianwaxes? They can be intimidating, but I do my best to make you feel comfortable…I’m a talker!  I start by cleansing the area…of course!  We use hard wax here @KimberlySpa which is very beneficial for sensitive skin and areas, NOstrips involved…yikes! I start at the top outside edges of the area and work my way in and down.  I have ways of helping to alleviate the discomfort such as holding the skin tight, using pressure after every pull and maybe a cool towel if needed.  For your backside, I  have you lay down on your stomach (not on all fours like some places…eeek!).

The first time is always the most nerve-wracking, but don’t worry…by the second visit it’s a piece of cake!  The more frequently you wax, the roots of the hair will diminish making it easier for the hair to come out.  Your skin becomes smoother and less irritated. Your hair won’t grow back for 3-8 weeks, and over time waxing actually inhibits hair growth making it less and less!!

All in all, Brazilian waxes are totally worth it!  Here @Kimberly Spa, Brazilians are NOTHING like the horror stories that you’ve heard about.  They are only horror stories because they didn’t come here to have it done!

Bye-Bye “Bertie”

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Kids can be so mean!  Growing up I was teased constantly about 2 things.  One, being tall enough to reach the treetops, nothing I can do about that (thanks dad).  And second…my eyebrows.  Or maybe I should say my ‘uni-brow’.  That’s right, my least favorite nickname growing up was…….Bertie.  As in ‘Bert and Ernie’ of Sesame Street fame.   When I was younger it bothered me but, like my height, I didn’t think that there was anything that I could do about it.  Boy was I wrong!  Thankfully, a dear friend showed me how to go about saying bye-bye to Bertie!

I tried tweezing (since that is what she recommended) but I could never get the right shape, and it took so darn long!  With all of the fuzz that grew across my brow it was like pulling weeds along the highway…never ending!  There just had to be a better way to keep Bertie at bay. (more…)
