Sun damage is caused by the sun and its ultra violet rays. Approximately 80% to 85% of aging skin is caused by these rays. UVA and UVB rays speed up the process of weakening collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. UVA rays are the aging rays. They are able to penetrate as far as to the dermis of the skin. UVB rays are the burning rays. They only penetrate to the epidermis (top layer) of skin but are stronger and more damaging to the skin. It is so important to be wearing your sun protection DAILY!! This will help you slow down the process of aging and sun spots. It is impossible to stay out of the sun . Here are just a few tips to avoid too much sun exposure:
-Apply sunblock at least 30 min. before going into the sun
-Avoid peak hours of sun of sun exposure between 10-4
-Reapply sun protection every two hours especially if sweating or swimming
-Wear hats and sunglasses
-AVOID tanning beds
It may seem like a little extra work, however, taking these few simple precautions will help you’re skin to stay looking young and vibrant.

Hello Kimberly Spa go-ers! If you have been feeling like most Omahan’s this spring, you definitely need a boost of Vitamin C to help your immune system fight off the nasty cold and allergy bugs going around! Your body is not the only part that needs vitamin-c…Your skin does too! Kimberly Spa’s Magic C Facial is a great preventative and healing service. It gives you a huge Vitamin-C boost and it is also extremely relaxing because of the fabulous Esthetician’s that give you the extra love that other Spa’s do not!
You don’t know what Vitamin-c does for your skin? Well, here’s the scoop:
It’s not a huge secret that Vitamin C is good for the body but some people don’t know that it is also a very effective antioxidant that helps boost your skin’s defense against free-radicals. Free-radicals are unstable molecules that age the skin. The effect of too much sun, alcohol consumption, high altitudes are all major causes of free-radicals. Vitamin C strengthens the structural support and resiliency of your skin by increasing the production of collagen.
The Magic C Facial begins with your Esthetician cleansing and examining your skin. They will then put the appropriate enzyme mask on your skin under steam for about 10 minutes. Once the enzyme mask is removed with warm water, the magic begins! Your Esthetician will begin the first step to your vitamin c boost (more…)

Water truly is a tool for the body. It helps with hydration, organ health, headaches, hunger, and weight loss to mention just a few of its benefits. A properly hydrated body from water intake will help the kidneys function along with other organs that process the different substances that move throughout the body.
Massage Therapists recommend drinking water before a massage because it will hydrate the muscles which makes them easier to manipulate. A good example would be to think of your muscles as a sponge. A dry sponge is not all that easy to move however once it is moistened with water you are able to squish it and squeeze it as much as you like. When you drink water before a massage in a sense does the same to your muscles as it does to the sponge… making it easier for your therapist to be able to work your body. Your connective tissue/fascia is more elastic when hydrated and allows you full benefit of receiving massage.
Once your massage is over you’ll need to drink water again to rehydrate your muscles. While you receive massage, through the manipulation of the muscles (more…)

Ingrown Hairs…We all get them! But, we can also all prevent them!
An ingrown hair is when a hair grows sideways or curls back into the skin. If the pore the hair grows in is clogged or blocked the hair is forced to grow irregularly. They are most common in areas we shave or wax, and in people with curly hair. Some symptoms of an ingrown hair are itching skin, red bumps, small pus filled papules, and sometimes even a rash. Ingrown hairs can sometimes cause discomfort and can even lead to infections or scaring. If you see an ingrown hair, you can use a warm wash cloth on the area and tweeze it out. This may cause a slight discomfort, but you want the ingrown hair out so it won’t lead to infections.
None of us want any of these symptoms, so you may ask…How do we prevent these awful ingrown hairs? (more…)

Every winter my skin goes through the same cycle…the dreaded “Alligator Cycle”. The skin on my body gets so scaly that it looks and feels like alligator skin! Instead of shrugging my shoulders and just letting it go…I channel my inner Steve Irwin and TACKLE the alligator!
My favorite way to do it is with a Total Body Exfoliation…I just LOVE it! It sluffs off the old, dead skin cells and hydrates my skin at the same time. Plus, regular skin exfoliations speed up the skin renewal process allowing healthier skin cells to take their place. It is a great way to relieve stress, and encourages natural blood flow.
Salt scrubs are perfect for rough, coarse skin that needs a little extra love. Sugar scrubs are best for sensitive skin. Try adding a little aromatherapy oil to your scrub… (more…)

As adults we take great care in keeping children safe from harsh winter elements. Do we take the same care for ourselves? For most of us…probably not. We have many people that depend on us to be fully functioning, especially during cold and flu season. Most of us “know” how to bundle up, but here are a few suggestions that may make bundling up almost enjoyable!
One important choice in gearing up for winter is snow boots. I know, I know…they are cumbersome and messy, but necessary. Once trick I have learned over the years is to keep a pair of neutral colored shoes at work…that way I can head out the door in my boots and not worry about grabbing another pair of shoes to change in to. Hats and gloves are also important when gearing up for winter. 90% of our body heat escapes through our head and extremities. Keeping our head, feet, and hands covered is crucial. These items will allow your body to retain that ‘lost’ heat. Your body won’t have to work as hard to keep you warm. I have also found that in harsh weather, messy hair is acceptable…so long as it is due to “hat head”.
My favorite winter accessory… (more…)

Feeling stressed?
The holiday season is creeping up on us quick! This time of the year can cause a lot of stress.
While everyone knows that stress can take a toll on a person physically and psychologically, it also can lead to other problems, such as acne, brittle nails or even hair loss. When you become stressed, your cortisol level rises. This in turn causes an increase in oil production, which can lead to oily skin, acne and other related skin problems. Professionals have also found that stress has a negative effect on the barrier function of the skin, resulting in water loss that inhibits the skin’s ability to repair itself after an injury. Scientist’s and Doctor’s have said that skin rejuvenation procedures such as Facials, Pedicures, Massages, (more…)

Are you going trick-or-treating this year? Maybe taking the kids trick-or-treating? Or perhaps just buying bags of candy for all the trick-or-treaters? You know you’re going to give in a little and have some of the candy you bought or earned walking with the kids to all the houses. If you are going to give in a little try giving in to something that’s going to help your skin… chocolate! That’s right, I said help, not hurt. The myths that chocolate causes breakouts are just that…myths! In fact chocolate, in moderation, has large powerful antioxidants in the cocoa (the main ingredient in chocolate). Cocoa is derived from cocoa beans. It contains 10,000mg of antioxidants per 100 g of cocoa. The antioxidant properties in cocoa can help prevent free radicals from damaging the elastin and collagen in the skin preventing wrinkles and discoloration.
Take into consideration the darker the chocolate the better. Dark chocolate also contains vitamins D and E which are great for your skin and body. In a study woman who took a ½ cup of cocoa with 329 milligrams of antioxidants a day for 12 weeks saw: (more…)

If your skin is dull and lifeless…microdermabrasion may be the answer, and it is my favorite service!
Fall is an awesome time to concentrate on reversing any damage that has been done during those harsh summer days. Or maybe you have acne scars that you are self-conscious about…microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that exfoliates the dermis (outer layer of skin) and gets rid of those pesky dead skin cells. Your skin becomes smooth, has more of an even texture, and there is NO down time…and that is after just ONE treatment! Just imagine how fresh, smooth, and luminous your skin will look after the recommended 4-8 weekly treatments!
One of my favorite things about micro’s (for short) is that it stimulates collagen, which is responsible for keeping the skin hydrated and helps prevent fine lines & wrinkles. It also helps to increase cell turnover aiding in the removal of blackheads & acne scarring.
Microdermabrasion is (in my humble opinion) one of the BEST things you can do for your skin without using lasers or botox…or, needless to say, ”going under the knife”!
