Wow! Can you believe we are entering the holiday season already? Where did the year go! Have you ever woke up and wondered when Rudolph decided to possess your body? I think we have all had our days where our skin is so dry, red and chapped that it hurts to even smile or looked surprised! Have you ever accidentally offended someone at the store or work because any slight movement such as a smile or laugh will cause excruciating pain? Nebraska has been known to give you a little of each season in each week, especially around this time of the year. Later in the blog are 7 tips to keep yourself looking gorgeous!
It’s no doubt Nebraska’s weather can be rough on everybody and everything! I see a lot of dry skin on my clients during this time of the season. I’ve had facial clients that got a chance to experience my luscious foot and leg scrub and after applying a good hydrating moisturizer, they have said…”I feel so refreshed”…”I actually slept better that night! I didn’t feel like I was snagging my sheets!” LOL! Dry skin is a very common skin problem and is often worse during the winter when environmental humidity is low…(ex. ‘winter itch’). Even though I may have oily, acne prone skin, I still suffer from extreme dry skin in the fall and winter. Even my 5 year old son’s skin gets extremely dry and chapped after the first 32 degree day of the year and it seems to usually stick around until we hit the mid 60’s again. Your skin needs moisture to stay smooth and supple, and retaining moisture becomes difficult as we age. Try changing one little thing per week and it will make an amazing difference! (more…)

Hyperpigmentation- Darkening of the skin in areas due to sun exposure, a wound, inflammation, acne or injury. Hyperpigmentation can be temporary or permanent. Also known as sun spots, age spots, liver spots, or larger areas of hyperpigmentation can occur during pregnancy, known as melasma. Common Treatments: Skin lightening serum or cream like Visual Changes Lightening Serum daily and facial treatments like chemical peels, microdermabrasion and Photo Rejuvenation based on your esthetician’s advice.

“Summer really jacks with my skin! I stay out of the sun as much as possible…wear a hat… use a high SPF Sunscreen… I’m always searching for shade! My Plastic Surgeon’s Advice… was for me to get a total and complete blethroplasty! What?! Come on, really?! Okay, let me start from the beginning because I have so many of my loyal clients asking my advice on Facial Plastic Surgery.
I had noticed a small brown spot on my right shin that through up a red flag. Just to get it checked out, I scheduled an appointment with a plastic surgeon that did a scar revision on my arm a few years ago, and I thought he did a great job. Women think Brazilian wax and then immediately think, “Ouch!” Men think Brazilian waxand think, “Oo-La-La!” We think we’ve bridged that gap between the “ouch” and the “oo-la-la”.
Settle down guys, women don’t go to their waxing appointments for the sole purpose of your happiness! Women who wax say they feel more comfortable and clean. It also beats out the competition for ease and convenience on a daily basis. You’re not left with sandpaper stubble, nicks and cuts, and you don’t need to worry about it EVERY day! Waxing is usually done every 4-6 weeks depending on the rate of an individual’s hair growth. When your re-growth starts to appear, you notice that it’s softer and less noticeable! Regular waxing clients usually see a gradual regression in the amount of hair they have in the area. So if you start waxing now, by next summer, you might just see a little “barely-there” hair!
Ok, so let’s address the “ouch” factor to Brazilian waxing. Your initial wax will be uncomfortable, we can’t lie. Here are some tips that will help with your first visit:
#1 Try to relax. If you are tense the experience will be made even more uncomfortable.

Warm water bubbling around your feet, a sweet aroma in the air, a leather massaging chair gently working out your kinks, soft surround sound music, and an hour to yourself just to relax. This is what women WANT from their pedicure appointment. Unfortunately, we have seen the American pedicure be industrialized down to a quick anything but relaxing half hour that leaves us with painted toes and not much else.
It’s a great thing that foot and nail grooming has become so socially standardized, but it causes concern about how quickly these pedicures take place in other salons and spas. Everyone has heard on the news about nail salons getting sued and shut down over the spread of fungus and disease. Remember Paula Abdul’s fight against California to toughen up the sanitation regulations of these “quickie” nail spas?
