Ingrown Hairs

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

Ingrown Hairs…We all get them! But, we can also all prevent them!

An ingrown hair is when a hair grows sideways or curls back into the skin.  If the pore the hair grows in is clogged or blocked the hair is forced to grow irregularly.  They are most common in areas we shave or wax, and in people with curly hair.    Some symptoms of an ingrown hair are itching skin, red bumps, small pus filled papules, and sometimes even a rash.  Ingrown hairs can sometimes cause discomfort and can even lead to infections or scaring.  If you see an ingrown hair, you can use a warm wash cloth on the area and tweeze it out. This may cause a slight discomfort, but you want the ingrown hair out so it won’t lead to infections.

None of us want any of these symptoms, so you may ask…How do we prevent these awful ingrown hairs? (more…)

Flexibility!

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Flexibility… a lot of life’s schedule just doesn’t afford us such a comfort.  We all, at some point, have wished that things in life could be more flexible.

I get it!  I make it a priority to understand the value of flexibility when it comes to our clients.

I’ve thought long and hard about what clients have told me they want in their skincare and massage services! I’ve taken it to heart…and here are just a few of the flexible options that we offer:

- the flexibility of the services we offer! We are able to accommodate a multitude of skin issues, budgets and lifestyles!

-on-line booking… gives you a chance to book at your convenience!

-reminder calls the day before appointments…allows you to reschedule your appointment if “life” has gotten in the way again, and you are unable to make it. (more…)

Guys, You Have Never Been To A Spa?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Maybe you should try it!   Whether you are looking for hair removal, acne treatments, rejuvenation, anti-aging or just plain old stress reduction, at Kimberly Spa we take pride in addressing your individual concerns.

My own father was very reluctant to get spa treatments when I became an esthetician 15 years ago.   He is an “old-school” kind of guy…raised in an era when men never got these types of treatments.   At first, I had to talk him in to it…but now he is not only comfortable getting treatments, he actually looks forward to them!   He leaves feeling refreshed, with unclogged pores and with  younger, healthier looking skin.

A first-time male client (age 50+) who had never been into a spa before describes his experience…”I had a good feeling as soon as I walked in to Kimberly Spa.   It was luxurious, and comfortable…while still being clinically professional.   They earned my trust.”

Ladies, if you have a boyfriend, brother, father, spouse or just a good male friend who is curious about what a “spa experience” is all about…share our “Look Good~Feel Good” secret and send them to Kimberly Spa!   They will love it just as much as you do, and it will be an experience they’ll never forget!

Never Had A ‘Brazilian’?

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

What can I say about Brazilianwaxes? They can be intimidating, but I do my best to make you feel comfortable…I’m a talker!  I start by cleansing the area…of course!  We use hard wax here @KimberlySpa which is very beneficial for sensitive skin and areas, NOstrips involved…yikes! I start at the top outside edges of the area and work my way in and down.  I have ways of helping to alleviate the discomfort such as holding the skin tight, using pressure after every pull and maybe a cool towel if needed.  For your backside, I  have you lay down on your stomach (not on all fours like some places…eeek!).

The first time is always the most nerve-wracking, but don’t worry…by the second visit it’s a piece of cake!  The more frequently you wax, the roots of the hair will diminish making it easier for the hair to come out.  Your skin becomes smoother and less irritated. Your hair won’t grow back for 3-8 weeks, and over time waxing actually inhibits hair growth making it less and less!!

All in all, Brazilian waxes are totally worth it!  Here @Kimberly Spa, Brazilians are NOTHING like the horror stories that you’ve heard about.  They are only horror stories because they didn’t come here to have it done!

Bye-Bye “Bertie”

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Kids can be so mean!  Growing up I was teased constantly about 2 things.  One, being tall enough to reach the treetops, nothing I can do about that (thanks dad).  And second…my eyebrows.  Or maybe I should say my ‘uni-brow’.  That’s right, my least favorite nickname growing up was…….Bertie.  As in ‘Bert and Ernie’ of Sesame Street fame.   When I was younger it bothered me but, like my height, I didn’t think that there was anything that I could do about it.  Boy was I wrong!  Thankfully, a dear friend showed me how to go about saying bye-bye to Bertie!

I tried tweezing (since that is what she recommended) but I could never get the right shape, and it took so darn long!  With all of the fuzz that grew across my brow it was like pulling weeds along the highway…never ending!  There just had to be a better way to keep Bertie at bay. (more…)

Goodbye Mustache!

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011
I used to think I was alone in the world with the dreaded mustache!  Thank goodness I eventually found out I was not alone.  You see, growing up as a tomboy I never indulged in pampering and everything that went along with it, until I graduated high school.  Then it was about looking good and feeling good about myself.  One day looking in the mirror, I realized that maybe the years of being a tomboy, well, gave me some unwanted features.  There was, what seemed to be, a Tom Selleck going on above my lip and that had me quite concerned.

I went to a dear friend for advice and she told me it was completely normal and suggested waxing.  I was nervous, knowing how sensitive the lip area is, and didn’t want the pain, redness, or bumps that are sometimes associated with it.

After thinking about it, I realized the old saying “beauty is pain” and went for it.  I made my friend come with me and got the job done.  I have to say it wasn’t bad at all and made me more confident.  The area was cleaned before waxing to help prevent bumps and the redness didn’t last as long as I had originally thought it would.  It was taken care of with the help of Kalo lotion and the bumps (if I even had any) were gone with a little exfoliation.

Years later, I am still waxing that lip so I don’t have to have the worry of Tom Selleck on my mind.

Quality VS Quantity Vol. 3: The Brazilian Wax

Kimberly Spa Brazilian WaxWomen think Brazilian wax and then immediately think, “Ouch!”  Men think Brazilian waxand think, “Oo-La-La!”  We think we’ve bridged that gap between the “ouch” and the “oo-la-la”.

Settle down guys, women don’t go to their waxing appointments for the sole purpose of your happiness!  Women who wax say they feel more comfortable and clean.  It also beats out the competition for ease and convenience on a daily basis.  You’re not left with sandpaper stubble, nicks and cuts, and you don’t need to worry about it EVERY day!  Waxing is usually done every 4-6 weeks depending on the rate of an individual’s hair growth.  When your re-growth starts to appear, you notice that it’s softer and less noticeable!  Regular waxing clients usually see a gradual regression in the amount of hair they have in the area.  So if you start waxing now, by next summer, you might just see a little “barely-there” hair!

Ok, so let’s address the “ouch” factor to Brazilian waxing.  Your initial wax will be uncomfortable, we can’t lie.  Here are some tips that will help with your first visit:

#1 Try to relax.  If you are tense the experience will be made even more uncomfortable.

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Men's Spa Treatments and MassageMen need pampering, too! And the bottom line is… Kimberly Spa offers many great services created strictly for men in a very comfortable and private environment!

Our Estheticians and Massage Therapists are highly trained professionals that are here to provide the highest level of service possible.  Some men are a bit apprehensive the first time they come into the spa to get their waxing or other types of spa services done.  But afterwards, they almost always comment on how it wasn’t as big a deal as they thought it would be, and how really comfortable they felt.
