Staying Warm = Staying Healthy

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

As adults we take great care in keeping children safe from harsh winter elements.  Do we take the same care for ourselves?  For most of us…probably not.  We have many people that depend on us to be fully functioning, especially during cold and flu season.  Most of us “know” how to bundle up, but here are a few suggestions that may make bundling up almost enjoyable!

One important choice in gearing up for winter is snow boots.  I know, I know…they are cumbersome and messy, but necessary.  Once trick I have learned over the years is to keep a pair of neutral colored shoes at work…that way I can head out the door in my boots and not worry about grabbing another pair of shoes to change in to.  Hats and gloves are also important when gearing up for winter.  90% of our body heat escapes through our head and extremities.  Keeping our head, feet, and hands covered is crucial.  These items will allow your body to retain that ‘lost’ heat.  Your body won’t have to work as hard to keep you warm.  I have also found that in harsh weather, messy hair is acceptable…so long as it is due to “hat head”.

My favorite winter accessory… (more…)

Feeling Stressed?

Feeling stressed?

The holiday season is creeping up on us quick!  This time of the year can cause a lot of stress.

While everyone knows that stress can take a toll on a person physically and psychologically, it also can lead to other problems, such as acne, brittle nails or even hair loss.  When you become stressed, your cortisol level rises.  This in turn causes an increase in oil production, which can lead to oily skin, acne and other related skin problems. Professionals have also found that stress has a negative effect on the barrier function of the skin, resulting in water loss that inhibits the skin’s ability to repair itself after an injury.  Scientist’s and Doctor’s have said that skin rejuvenation procedures such as Facials, Pedicures, Massages, (more…)

Ear Candling!

Monday, October 24th, 2011

With the cold and flu season upon us, we will all come in contact with some sort of virus.  Ear candling is a way to help relieve sinus pressure, ear infections, sinusitis, headaches,  and post nasal drip.

Ear candling is performed with the client lying on his or her side.  A long hollow candle is inserted into the ear and then lit.  The smoke of the candle is pulled down into the ear causing the ear to warm up and loosen the wax and other debris inside the eardrum. As the ear warms up, the candle will cause suction which creates a vacuum in the ear canal…that is how the toxins are removed from the inner ear and sinus canal.  After the candle has burned the appropriate amount of time, it is removed from the ear.  When you look inside the hollow candle…you can actually see the wax and toxins that were removed from your ear!

Ear Candling isn’t a treatment meant only for cold weather, best results are when it it’s performed every three months. It is quick, and painless…so why not call today to make your appointment!

Guys, You Have Never Been To A Spa?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Maybe you should try it!   Whether you are looking for hair removal, acne treatments, rejuvenation, anti-aging or just plain old stress reduction, at Kimberly Spa we take pride in addressing your individual concerns.

My own father was very reluctant to get spa treatments when I became an esthetician 15 years ago.   He is an “old-school” kind of guy…raised in an era when men never got these types of treatments.   At first, I had to talk him in to it…but now he is not only comfortable getting treatments, he actually looks forward to them!   He leaves feeling refreshed, with unclogged pores and with  younger, healthier looking skin.

A first-time male client (age 50+) who had never been into a spa before describes his experience…”I had a good feeling as soon as I walked in to Kimberly Spa.   It was luxurious, and comfortable…while still being clinically professional.   They earned my trust.”

Ladies, if you have a boyfriend, brother, father, spouse or just a good male friend who is curious about what a “spa experience” is all about…share our “Look Good~Feel Good” secret and send them to Kimberly Spa!   They will love it just as much as you do, and it will be an experience they’ll never forget!

Happy Feet!

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Don’t you just love the way your feet feel after a Kimberly Spa Pedicure?  Ever wonder how you can keep them feeling great in between your pedicures?  With just a couple quick and easy steps you can have soft heels that will last through the colder months to come.

Your first defense against those scratchy, cracked heels is a great foot file such as the Super Pro 3-in-1 Nickel File that you can find right here at Kimberly Spa.  It has three different grades to work in all the problem areas and it’s even ergonomical!  Take a minute at the very end of your shower or bath each time, when your feet have had time to soften, to scrub just a few times across the bottom of your foot in the problem areas such as the heels, ball of the foot and any callused areas.  It only takes a minute or two each time and your feet will thank you.

The second line of defense is the Cucumber Heel Therapy from Creative Nail Design (also available at Kimberly Spa).  I like to keep this product next to the bed and smooth a tiny bit on to the heels right before bedtime.  This ensures the cream stays on your foot and not on the floor.  Do this a couple times a week and you will have happy, soft feet between your pedicures!

Foot Detox, What’s That?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Toxins are all around us.  We naturally get toxins from the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the state of stress we are in.  Unfortunately, a buildup of toxins in the body can become harmful and even increase the chances of becoming ill.

Did you know that our bodies are made up of many electrically charged cells?  Sometimes these cells can become off balance due to the buildup of toxins.  When those cells are out of balance they aren’t able to function correctly to keep a person healthy.  Foot detox baths use the thousands of sweat glands in our feet to help take out some of those unhealthy toxins.  A foot detox bath also puts safe positive and negative ions back into the body through those same glands!  These ions then gradually help to bring the body back into balance.    (more…)

Look What’s New at Kimberly Spa…

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Forget oversized handbags, those cute expensive boots you saw in the store window, and those oh so sky-high stilettos: a shiny manicure is the “It” accessory of the moment. Beige neutral nails and bold bright polish are both on-trend this season, but in a time of recession, many women are going the Do-it-yourself route with their nails. Who wants to spend $55 on a manicure that chips after two days? Well, Kimberly Spa is now offering Shellac manicures that last an impressive 14 days!

The Shellac manicure is completely unique and revolutionary. Have you ever gotten a manicure and then reached for your keys and ruined it? Have you ever gotten your nails done for an event the next day, and had your manicure chip before the festivities begin? Have you ever painted your nails before bed and woken up with sheet marks in them? Have you ever gotten busted at work for trying to redo your nails? Personally, I can say “yes” to all of these things, which is why I absolutely love Shellac, the manicure that requires no drying time and lasts two weeks with no issues whatsoever. (more…)

Quality VS Quantity Vol. 2: The Kimberly Spa Pedicure

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Kimberly Spa PedicureWarm water bubbling around your feet, a sweet aroma in the air, a leather massaging chair gently working out your kinks, soft surround sound music, and an hour to yourself just to relax.  This is what women WANT from their pedicure appointment.  Unfortunately, we have seen the American pedicure be industrialized down to a quick anything but relaxing half hour that leaves us with painted toes and not much else.

It’s a great thing that foot and nail grooming has become so socially standardized, but it causes concern about how quickly these pedicures take place in other salons and spas.  Everyone has heard on the news about nail salons getting sued and shut down over the spread of fungus and disease.  Remember Paula Abdul’s fight against California to toughen up the sanitation regulations of these “quickie” nail spas?

As part of Kimberly Spa’s “quality vs. quantity” mission, we are proud to say we created the Spa Pedicure that is quite (more…)

Q & A with Kimberly

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Not a regular spa-goer?  Nervous to make your first appointment?  Have questions you don’t know how to ask?
We understand the anxiety a person can have before trying out a new spa, or even trying out a spa for the first time.  Always keeping our newest clients in mind, we have decided to make it a little easier for you by adding this question and answer forum to our blog.  All the questions are typical of a first time client, and are taken directly from our phone calls from people like you.

Q:  “Kimberly, what kind of experience would a new client expect from Kimberly Spa?”
A:
“They can expect high level customer service, comfort, and knowing that this spa knows what they are doing!”

Q:  “What should I do to prepare for my first facial?” (more…)

It’s Pedicure Season!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Kimberly Spa PedicureSummer is almost here and it’s time for those cute peep-toe shoes, sexy strappy sandals and heel baring mules! But take a good look at your feet and ask yourself if the skin of your precious feet really look as good as they can?

Do your feet look old?  Do you notice dry flaky skin? Cracked callus heels and ugly cuticles? Are you STILL going to those “nail factories”?

First of all, it’s important to know that the nail is made of a hard protein called keratin. Because of that, the nail is able to protect the ends of the fingers and toes from trauma. That’s extremely important to keep in mind. It’s best to have your nails groomed professionally every 4 to 6 weeks.
